Meet Terry Cammack, newly hired Information and Referral (I&R) Specialist at the Access Center for Independent Living (ACIL).
Terry came to ACIL highly recommended by our Recycled Equipment Donated for Independence (REDI) Program Manager, Jeff Allen, who is his close friend.
“Jeff is familiar with my work history and thought the I&R Specialist position would really suit me, so he encouraged me to apply,” said Terry.
While Terry is new to ACIL, he worked in the Transportation field for over 30 years and is no stranger to advocacy.
“As the Operations Manager for Greater Dayton Regional Transit Authority, I oversaw the paratransit program which offers door-to-door service to certified individuals with disabilities who are unable to use regular fixed routes. I liked being able to help individuals with disabilities live more independently while working in that position. I am excited to once again use my skills to help individuals with disabilities live more independently as an I&R Specialist,” he said.
As an I&R Specialist, Terry helps to further ACIL’s mission to ensure that people with disabilities have full and complete access to the community in which they reside by providing our consumers resources on accessible housing to affordable healthcare and everything in between.
“Empowering people with disabilities to achieve independence has been a large part of my career and is important to me. I am happy to continue doing so while working at ACIL. I hope to not only help consumers, but my fellow employees too,” he said.
When Terry is not helping others to achieve independence, you’re likely to him spending time with his wife, Charlotte.
“I am a simple guy. I like admiring classic cars and working on computers, but what I enjoy most is spending time with Charlotte. We have been married for 36 years and together for 44. She is a wonderful partner,” he said.
