ACIL Shines at Adaptive Action Day: Empowering Connections in the Community
The Access Center for Independent Living (ACIL) recently made a significant impact at Centerville Washington Park District’s Adaptive Action Day, an event that celebrated inclusivity and recreational activities for individuals with disabilities and their families.
Held on Saturday, September 27th, from 11 AM to 2 PM at Activity Center Park in Centerville, the event offered attendees a chance to engage in various activities while connecting with one another in a welcoming environment.
Adaptive Action Day provided many engaging adaptive activities, including archery, kickball, sidewalk chalk, biking, pickleball, and crafts. Additionally, the event featured sensory-friendly activity stations and a cool-down area, ensuring comfort for all attendees. The pleasant weather contributed to a well-attended gathering, allowing ACIL staff ample opportunity to showcase the programs and resources we offer to those we serve.
“Events like Adaptive Action Day are crucial for fostering relationships and providing resources to families in our service area,” said Barb Butler-Thomas, Independent Living Specialist/ Youth Transition Coordinator at ACIL. “It’s rewarding to see families connect and learn more about the support we can offer.”
In addition to valuable networking, ACIL aims to enhance its outreach efforts in the upcoming year by participating in more resource fairs and community action days.
