Volunteer Opportunities at the Access Center for Independent Living

Are you passionate about making a difference in your community? The Access Center for Independent Living (ACIL) would like to invite individuals who are willing and eager to help the community to volunteer for us. Volunteering at ACIL provides a unique opportunity to help empower people with disabilities while gaining valuable experience and connecting with accepting, like-minded individuals.

 How You Can Help

ACIL is currently seeking volunteers for the Recycled Equipment Donated for Independence (REDI) program, a program through which ACIL gives donated gently used durable medical equipment to those in need in hopes of helping people become more independent and able to live life to the fullest in the community of their choice.  Volunteers are needed to assist with picking up and delivering donations. Consequently, having a truck and the ability to heavy lift would be helpful for this role. This role offers the chance to engage directly with the community and see firsthand the positive impact of your efforts.

In addition to helping with the REDI program, there are opportunities to assist with administrative tasks around the office such as filing and researching opportunities for community engagement. These tasks are critical in ensuring the smooth operation of the center and require individuals who are organized and detail-oriented.

For those who have a knack for fixing things, ACIL also needs help with small handyman projects around the office. These projects might include minor repairs or maintenance tasks, which are essential for maintaining a welcoming and functional space for everyone at the center.

A clean and well-maintained environment is crucial for both staff and visitors at ACIL. Volunteers can contribute significantly by assisting with custodial tasks, such as vacuuming and cleaning restrooms. These tasks are vital for ensuring a safe and pleasant space for everyone who visits or works at the center. Volunteers engaging in these activities help maintain the high standards of cleanliness and hygiene that ACIL strives for, contributing to a welcoming atmosphere for all.

Why Volunteer?

Volunteering at ACIL is not only about giving back; it is also an opportunity for personal growth. Here are some compelling reasons to consider volunteering:

Skill Development: Volunteering allows you to develop and refine skills, whether it’s enhancing your organizational abilities through administrative tasks or honing your practical skills with handyman projects.

Community Engagement: Volunteering is an excellent way to meet new people, engage with your community, and build meaningful friendships.

Personal Fulfillment: Helping others can be incredibly rewarding and can lead to a greater sense of purpose.

Need to volunteer for school credit or to earn community service hours?  ACIL staff are more than willing to sign paperwork to ensure you get credit for time spent helping us.
