Mission and Goals
The mission of the Ohio DD Council is guided by its Five-Year State Plan, which is crafted with input from people with disabilities, family members, and stakeholders across the state. The Council funds more than 20 grants focused on various issues faced by individuals with developmental disabilities, including:
Children and Health
Leadership Development
Community Living
Outreach
Communication
Public Policy
These initiatives are rooted in the philosophy that individuals with developmental disabilities have the right to be productive, interdependent members of their communities.
Impact and Projects
The Ohio DD Council has made a significant impact on the state of Ohio by funding several projects aimed at enhancing the lives of people with developmental disabilities and their families. For instance:
“Ohio Aging & Disability Transportation Coalition: A grant was used to launch this coalition consisting of Centers for Independent Living, the DD Council, and the Ohio Department of Transportation, which started the #LetsGoOhio campaign to improve access to transportation resources.
“The Future is Now” Sessions: These sessions focused on aging caregivers, helping them create a plan for the future through a letter of intent.
The Council has also supported organizations like Best Buddies International, Inc., and the Ohio Self Determination Association, empowering self-advocates to become effective leaders.

The Ohio DD Council consists of over 30 members:
– 60% represent individuals with developmental disabilities, as well as their parents and guardians.
