Eat healthy, stay hydrated, exercise, get enough sleep. These are just a few of the healthy habits many people struggle to maintain amid busy lives. If you are a person with a disability ACIL’s Living Well in the Community can help you to identify and maintain healthy habits to make your life better.

Living Well in the Community is a ten week-long series of workshops conducted via Zoom geared toward people with disabilities 18 years and older. Workshops occur once a week for an hour and a half.

“Living Well in the Community helps consumers identify and achieve independent living goals by first giving them the opportunity during the first two weeks of the workshop to do some self-reflection and identify a needed personal goal. After each participant identifies the goal that they would like to work on, they are then able to apply what is learned during the weekly workshops toward achieving it,” said Barb Butler-Thomas, Independent Living Specialist & Youth Transition Coordinator at ACIL, who facilitates the workshops.

Living Well in the Community requires not only a ten-week commitment but, more importantly, dedication to accomplish a goal. Participants can expect to feel safe and supported when identifying and accomplishing their goals.

“Workshops are confidential and only accessible to the facilitator and participants, so there are no other visitors or guest speakers. Participants can expect to have a safe place to explore what will personally allow them to have a healthier life. Participants have been said to really appreciate how the workshop is set up to be private and non-judgmental,” said Barb.

This is the second year that ACIL has held Living Well in the Community. Registration closed after the first workshop in late March. The group of participants this year is very small, but the presentation and discussion based workshops are going well so, ACIL plans to hold Living Well in The Community again next year.

People receive a $50 gift card for participating in Living Well in the Community but must attend at least eight of the ten works to recieve it.
